Binghamton Job Market Reports Losses for November

The New York State Department of Labor reports the Binghamton Job Market continues to struggle.

The November statistics show the region lost 500 non-farm jobs, including government positions over the past year while Ithaca added 1,600 jobs.  New York City added 79,600 jobs for the year. State-wide, the Labor Department reported the addition of a total 116,000 private-sector and government non-farm jobs from November 2018 to November 2019.

The State-wide unemployment rate stood at 4.0%, steady from October’s numbers, compared to 3.4% nationally. The National rate fell  .1% percent from October.  The labor department says the unemployment rate for areas outside of New York City in the state stood at 3.9%, again, no change from the rate posted in October.

Most sectors reported gains, including a big bump in Educational and Health Services while losses were posted in Manufacturing, Construction… which is impacted by seasonal factors, Financial Activities and other services.
