Binghamton’s First “Tiny Homes” for Veterans Delivered
The first two modular residential structures have arrived at the site of Broome County's soon-to-open veterans resource center.
The so-called "tiny homes" were transported from the manufacturer, Bill Lake Modular Homes in Montgomery County. They were placed in the corner of the project site at 530 State Street in Binghamton Thursday afternoon.
The remaining modular units are expected to be in the next few days. There will be five one-bedroom structures, along with five two-bedroom structures, to provide housing for local veterans.
A NYSEG crew was working on electrical installations near the foundations for the tiny homes.
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said they are "small but efficient homes" that will be furnished. The operation of the facility will be provided by Massachusetts-based Soldier On. The organization will provide property and case management services for residents.
Garnar told WNBF News an announcement will be made soon about the application process for the homes.
In the weeks ahead, the modular structures will be attached to their foundations. Siding and utilities will be installed to prepare the homes for occupancy.
The cost of the veterans resource and residential project is $12.2 million.
