Broome County is continuing to have issues with algae blooms at Dorchester Park in Whitney Point. August 14, the County Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth Services again closed the beach until further notice.

Algae can cause health problems when ingested and, in some cases, can be fatal for pets.   

Beaches at Nathaniel Cole and Greenwood Parks remain open.

The County closed Dorchester Park July 21 as a protective measure due to algae and reopened the park after two weeks. 

At the end of June, the County temporarily closed Nathanial Cole Park as a precaution when elevated levels of e-coli were found in Greenwood Lake.
