Emergency services officials in Chenango County say some fire hydrants in Bainbridge are out of commission and village officials say some residents will have no water until further notice.

The village Monday asked residents to conserve water due to what was believed to be a malfunctioning pump in the municipal well that was blamed for a massive leak.

Residents along County Road 38 to Crest Drive were left without water service starting Tuesday night and officials could not give a time when they estimated service would be restored.

Residents with discolored water are being told to boil it before consumption or for use in cooking.  Other areas are not under a boil order.

The village water customers, meanwhile, are still under the conservation order put into place earlier this week. Only daily or routine water use is permitted.

While a faulty pump had been cited Monday as the problem, the latest information indicates officials are entirely sure where the water loss is originating.

If the leak is not located soon, more customers may have their water shut off.
