Bainbridge Man Killed in Crash Involving Cattle Trailer in Guilford
A Bainbridge man is dead after New York State Police say he turned into the path of a pickup truck towing a cattle trailer at the intersection of County Routes 37 and 36 in the Town of Guilford September 3.
Troopers say the 52-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was killed when he made a U-turn at the intersection directly into the path of the pickup and trailer loaded with a dozen cows. The man, whose name has not been released, was airlifted to Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City where he died of his injuries.
The 71-year-old passenger in the car was also transported to Wilson Hospital. Her name and condition have not been released.
Troopers say the driver of the Ford 350 attempted to avoid the collision, but the 68-year-old McDonough woman was unsuccessful, crashing into the driver-side door of the Honda before both vehicles ended up in a ditch.
She declined medical treatment.
One of the 12 adult cows in the trailer was killed.
State Police have not released any of the names of those involved in the crash.
The accident is still under investigation and no tickets have been issued.
