Broome County officials say three new hybrid propulsion system buses officially went into service February 28.

The buses powered by technology developed locally by BAE Systems join the county’s current 12 hybrid electric buses in the public transportation system.

County officials say continued commitment to alternate energy is saving fuel costs and cutting air pollution.

Two million dollars in grant money awarded in 2018 by the New York State Department of Transportation Bus Program was used to help purchase the hybrid vehicles.
