B.U. Makes Lists of Top Research Schools
Binghamton University is again sitting high on the list of institutes of higher education for its research activity.
University officials say BU is labeled “R-1” for very high research activity on a list released by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The list also includes the likes of Harvard and Princeton Universities as well as ten other New York universities.
BU President, Doctor Harvey Stenger says Binghamton was first named an “R-1” school in 2018. The classifications are updated every three years.
To get the designation, schools have to have at least five-million dollars in research expenditures that grant at least 20 doctorate degrees a year. There are 148 schools on the latest list.

Doctor Stenger says work coming out of Binghamton University ranges from research regarding Parkinson’s Disease to information security.
BU is also listed in the Higher Education Research and Development rankings published by the National Science Foundation.
Binghamton University is currently constructing a research and development facility at the Health Sciences Campus in Johnson City.
