Apalachin School Closed Due to Broken Water Main
A water problem resulted in an unexpected day off for students at the Apalachin Elementary School.
The broken water main on the school property just off Pennsylvania Avenue was discovered around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
An eight-inch line from the street feeds a four-inch line that provides water for the school building.
Until crews shut off the line, water filled an area near the entrance to the school driveway but it did not flow into Pennsylvania Avenue.
The issue gave students an early start to their scheduled four-day holiday weekend.
Owego Apalachin School District officials say grandparents day at the Apalachin Elementary School will be rescheduled.
