Customers of the Walgreens location on Main Street in Johnson City were caught by surprise when that store closed suddenly in November 2023.

The next Southern Tier store to be targeted for a permanent closure is in Owego.

Signs have been posted at the Walgreens store at 153 Main Street indicating the location will close on January 28.

The announcement comes two months after the store's pharmacy was shut down for good.

The pharmacy had been experiencing staffing issues and the Walgreens indicated the company had been unable to hire enough people to maintain the operation.

Walgreens closed five stores in the Rochester area last month.
