Outgoing director of public health for the Broome County Health Department, Rebecca Kaufman tells this week’s Southern Tier Close Up that, in the five years she’s headed the department, of course, she never anticipated a global pandemic.

She adds, after dealing with COVID for the past 18 months, she never imagined that the county’s infection rate, that had dipped below one percent, would again be above eight percent.

Kaufman is leaving to lead public health efforts in Wake County, North Carolina in a couple of weeks.

Hear more about Kaufman’s insights into the pandemic, her years at health departments in Broome and Tioga Counties and what she faces in her new job in the Raleigh area on Southern Tier Close Up, September 4 at 6:03 a.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF and anytime on the WNBF podcast.
