American Heart Association Honors Heroes of Heart
The American Heart Association honored and thanked "Heroes of Heart" at an awards recognition and celebration at Traditions at the Glen on Wednesday evening. The "Heroes of Heart" event recognized those who helped the Heart Association during the 2019 Southern Tier Heart Walk and other at other times during the past year.
there were many awards given out. Some of the major awards included recognition for individual teams that raised the most money for the Heart Walk. The winner was Murphy's law with $16,792 raised. The top company award went to UHS with $29,488 raised.
Individual award winners included the Heartsaver Hero Kristy Botsford. Kristy is a Broome County Sheriff's Deputy who performed CPR and used her automated external defibrillator to save a patient last year. Volunteer of the Year went to Dave Chapman who volunteered many hours to help with the Heart Walk and many other American Heart Association events throughout the past year. The Inspirational Award went to stroke survivor Karla Stento-DeBrino. She has made a remarkable recovery from a stroke and gave an inspirational speech about her recovery efforts. Also named as a Heart Walk Inspirational Honoree was Tracy Cornell. Tracy is five years old and already has had three heart operations including one when she was just ten days old.
