After Four Months, No Arrests in Shooting Death of Aliza Spencer
Silence continues to surround the investigation into the April killing of a 12-year-old Binghamton girl who was shot while walking near her home.
Aliza Spencer died after she was wounded near the intersection of Bigelow and Chamberlain streets on the East Side.
Binghamton police said the shooting occurred shortly after 10 p.m. April 21. Aliza, who was a sixth grade student at East Middle School, was pronounced dead at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.
Police have held one news conference since the girl's death. That was on the afternoon following the shooting. Since then, police chief Joseph Zikuski and detectives have provided no status reports on the investigation.
There has been no indication that police have developed a suspect or a possible motive in the shooting.
People with information about the incident may contact the Binghamton police detective bureau at (607) 772-7080.
A reward has been posted in the case but that apparently has generated few useful tips.
A small memorial calling for "Justice for Aliza" remains in place near the shooting scene. Purple ribbons placed in her memory remain on utility poles and fenceposts on Bigelow Street.
