An Afton man is accused of driving with a blood alcohol content at more than twice the legal limit while his two children, under the age of 16, were in the vehicle.

New York State Police say 44 year old John Shapley was arrested at around 9 p.m. May 9 after a 911 call reported a reckless driver and accident on Oak Hill Road.

Troopers say Shapley apparently crossed partially into the southbound lane, causing another driver to serve off the road, then hit a mailbox before continuing to drive down the road to his home.

Shapley is charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated.

He was sent to the Chenango County Jail on $20,000 bail.
