Tioga County residents are being cautioned they could be experiencing temperatures in the afternoon that feel like the triple-digits.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for 1 to 8 p.m. July 7 for areas to the west of Binghamton due to high temperatures and high humidity levels.

Whether in the advisory area or not, the entire region is experiencing summer-like heat combined with humidity that can cause issues for people working outside and those with respiratory conditions.

Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay inside an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, check on relatives and neighbors and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.  People who need to work outside should plan to do so in the early morning or evening and take frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning.

The Heat Advisory area includes Tioga, Tompkins, Onondaga, and Chemung Counties.
