The Broome County Board of Elections is looking for organizations that want to adopt a polling place.

Actually, officials need more inspectors at polling places.

Organizations like clubs and churches can provide volunteers to man the polls in exchange for the $10 an hour normally paid to inspectors.

State law requires at least one registered Democrat and one registered Republican to be at sites in order for a poll to open.

The Broome Board of Elections, however, requires two of each so inspectors can take periodic breaks.

The shift for the general election is from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., although there is currently talk about split shifts.
