On the January 16 edition of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Executive Director of Fairview Recovery Services, Michele Napolitano talks about dealing with the exploding heroin and opioid addiction problem in the region.

Fairview Recovery Services is a not-for-profit agency that has been providing treatment for people addicted to all kinds of substances, including alcohol. since 1970

The group is currently in the process of constructing a new women's housing unit that can take in women and their children, breaking down the barrier to treatment for some women who don't want to leave their kids.  That facility is projected to be open in May, depending on the weather.

Napolitano discusses the changed attitude toward use of the drugs compared to years ago when many people were frightened by the prospect of coming into contact with illicit substances.

Napolitano says in spite of a huge request for services, Fairview will provide help for people even if they must be place on a waiting list.
