Union town supervisor Rose Sotak says demolition costs could total about $43,000. The project includes the removal of asbestos at the site.

Sotak says she was concerned about the safety hazards posed by the building for pedestrians who use the sidewalk in front of the property and for motorists using East Main Street.

The supervisor says the cinder blocks on one side of the building were in such bad shape that they posed a potential risk to the public.

Sotak says a lien will be placed on the property so the town should be able to recover the costs associated with the demolition work.
