Abandoned Binghamton Factory Site to Be Redeveloped
A Broome County developer is working to bring a long-dormant factory complex in Binghamton back to life.
The former E.H. Titchener manufacturing facility off Clinton Street in the city's First Ward has been sold by Broome County for $250,000.
The site previously had been owned by Isaac Anzaroot, who at one point put forth plans to redevelop the property into a new facility for Galaxy Brewing Company.
Mark Lane, president and CEO of William H. Lane Incorporated, is hoping transform the old eyesore into something productive.
Since closing on the property several weeks ago, work has been done to clean up the site, inside and outside. A large dumpster has been filled with junk that had remained in the unused building.
Lane told WNBF News that plans for the property have yet to be finalized. He said a 5,000-square-foot brick building at 67 Clinton Street could be used as office space. A 42,000-square-foot section of the former factory could be turned into manufacturing space.
A crumbling portion on the southwest corner of the complex is to be demolished.
The total cost of the redevelopment work now is estimated at $6.3 million. Some state funding for the project would come from a Downtown Redevelopment Initiative grant.
Lane said for now, the site is being used to stage materials for other projects the company is working on in the area.
Mayor Jared Kraham said cleaning up the site and developing "a productive new use will contribute greatly" to the revitalization of Clinton Street.
