A Garden Will Soon Grow Outside Temple Israel in Vestal

Volunteers are continuing to work on a new community garden in the town of Vestal.

The garden project is being developed on the grounds of Temple Israel between Clubhouse Road and Deerfield Place.

Rabbi Geoffrey Brown said efforts to make the garden a reality have been going on for nearly two years.

Brown said work in recent weeks has focused on the installation of double fencing to make the garden deer-proof.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Friday, Brown said the next phase will be mulching the interior space of the garden, which will accommodate 20 raised beds.

All of the plots in the garden were rented for the first season very soon after they became available.

Temple Israel has partnered with the group called VINES, which has been developing community gardens in the Binghamton area over the last several years.
