93-Unit Apartment Complex in Village of Owego to Open Soon
People could be moving into several dozen new apartments in Tioga County in the next few weeks.
The 93-unit Owego Square complex is located off Route 434 on the south side of the village. The site is just east of the Court Street bridge.
The project is being developed by Home Leasing of Rochester, which received about $13 million in financing from New York state.
The new apartment buildings were constructed near the Owego Gardens complex. That 62-unit project opened in January 2017.
Home Leasing representatives won't discuss an opening target date or any other details about the Owego Square apartments but the first residents are expected to move in during February or March.
Although major construction activity has concluded at the complex, work has been continuing to address minor issues.
There reportedly had been some water-related challenges at the site. A large water tank was constructed just south of the complex to supply the new apartments.
A housing lottery for Owego Square was conducted last April. The complex includes 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom apartments.
Home Leasing's website describes the new units as "affordable apartments." Most of them will be allocated to people "who who meet the resident selection criteria for low-income tax credit housing."
