$60 Million Binghamton University Baseball Stadium Almost Ready
Workers have been busy putting the finishing touches on the new baseball stadium complex on the Binghamton University campus in Vestal.
A grand opening event is scheduled to be held at the $60 million facility Friday evening. It's located in the northwest corner of the campus off the Vestal Parkway at Bunn Hill Road.
University officials have said the cost of the sports complex was covered by a donation "from a family that is passionate about baseball and about the Bearcat baseball team and Binghamton University in particular." The identity of the donor has not been made public.
The 84,000 square-foot complex includes the stadium, clubhouse and an indoor training facility. The training center has a turf baseball infield with a four-story ceiling.
Bearcats baseball coach Tim Sinicki told WNBF News "the complex is amazing."
Sinicki is in his 30th year as head coach at Binghamton. He said the opening of the facility "is very exciting." While the new complex will represent a big boost to the school's current baseball program, "the future of the program is going to benefit from this tremendously."
While the university's baseball players will benefit by using the complex, Sinicki said the community will gain by having a venue to watch sporting events "and maybe use the facility for other events."
