In Binghamton, Columbus Day isn’t just about Italian heritage and contributions, it’s about the hard work of high school musicians that participate in the annual Tournament of Bands parade competition.

This year, Johnson City captured first place for band, color guard and drum major in class “A”.  Williamson place first for band and color guard in class “B” and Northeast Bradford came out on top in class “C”.

In spite of the rain, Court Street was lined with spectators cheering on the marching bands.

The parade was followed by an Italian Festival on Water Street featuring a variety of foods.

The day began with the raising of the Italian Flag at Binghamton City Hall and the laying of flowers at the monument to Christopher Columbus at the Broome County Courthouse.
