320 People Losing Jobs in Owego Sanmina Plant Closure
Hundreds of workers are to be laid off with the closure of the Sanmina Corporation electronics manufacturing facility in Tioga County.
Employees at the company's plant on Taylor Road in the town of Owego were informed of the impending shutdown Thursday morning.
About 320 people are expected to lose their jobs within the next 90 days. The plant is scheduled to cease operations by March 7.
Reports of the decision to close the facility spread shortly after workers received the official notification of the move.
Officials at Sanmina in Owego were not available to comment on the action. A call to the company's corporate headquarters in California was not immediately returned.
The Owego site, which manufactures advanced printed circuit boards under contract for other companies, is located just northeast of the sprawling Lockheed Martin facility.
