According to a recent post on social media, the Southern Tier Animal Control of Elmira, New York, conducted an emergency rescue, seizing 16 young adult and 10 seven-week-old Shih Tzu dogs from a home in the Town of Big Flats, just west of Horseheads, New York. Currently, there is an on-going investigation, but no details have been released.

The 26 Shih Tzu dogs are receiving medical care and grooming. The Southern Tier Animal Control reached out to the public for help in the form of donations to offset the costs associated with the rescue and health of the dogs.

An update on the Southern Tier Animal Control Facebook page noted that the community has stepped up to help through donations and applications to adopt. According to their website, it was an overwhelming rescue effort.

According to the My Twin Tiers website, Southern Tier Animal Control provides animal control to local communities, enforces animal cruelty laws, and helps lost pets find their way home. For more information about Southern Tier Animal Control, visit their website.
