The Town of Union is taking control of securing a former Endicott Johnson shoe factory on Page Avenue after the owner allegedly ignored orders to maintain the property or demolish it.

Town Supervisor Rose Sotak says the town has secured part of the fencing around the building and has mowed a portion of the site.

Sotak says if the property is sold, taxpayers will be reimbursed for the town’s costs of securing the site.

The Supervisor says she expects the property owners will be summoned for another court date.

The owners had been given until June 30th to either clean up the property or tear the sprawling building down after the Town Board ruled the site unsafe in February.

Lawmakers gave the owners a list of ten renovations and code rectifications to accomplish by the deadline but Sotak says none of the work has been done.
