New York residents relying on the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) system will need to plan ahead, as the system is expected to be temporarily unavailable on Sunday, May 19, 2024.

The outage is scheduled to occur between 12:01 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., although it may extend beyond this timeframe. During this period, New York's EBT system will be transitioning to a new vendor, disrupting access to EBT benefits.

The disruption will include the inability to make food and cash purchases, withdraw cash, or utilize the EBT toll-free customer service helpline, mobile app, and online client portal. It is advised that individuals plan their food and cash-related transactions accordingly.

Despite the system changeover, EBT cardholders will not be required to obtain a new EBT card or change their Personal Identification Number (PIN). The customer service helpline number on the back of the card will remain the same, although the phone line will be inactive during the transition period.
