Area residents February 24 woke up to temperatures well below zero, not taking into account any wind causing the "feels like" temperature to plummet even more.

Winds died down, so the National Weather Service has swapped out a Wind Chill Warning that had been issued until 10 a.m. February 24 with a Wind Chill Advisory.

That means the potential still existed for frost bite on exposed flesh in 30 minutes or less and hypothermia if precautions are not taken.

The Weather Service advises wearing multiple layers keeps you warmer than just one heavy coat.

In the Greater Binghamton Area, the ambient air temperature at 3 a.m. ranged from -8 to -10.

At 11:30 p.m. local time, in Nome, Alaska, the temperature was 19 above with a projected high for February 24 of 30. Juneau was at 40 degrees and Anchorage was at 38 above.
