A Broome County teenager is facing several charges after Broome County Sheriff’s deputies responded to check on his welfare.

Sheriff’s officials say they responded to the area of Route 11 near Cedarhurst Road in the Town of Kirkwood at about 11:20 p.m. November 20 for the report of a man who was threatening suicide.  Deputies located 19-year-old Steven Kerrigan in his vehicle on the side of the road.

Police say after taking Kerrigan into custody, they discovered a stolen .22 caliber handgun and two knotted plastic wraps containing cocaine.  Kerrigan also had an active warrant for grand larceny out of the Town of Vestal.

Kerrigan is charged with criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance as well as the felony warrant.

Kerrigan was sent to the Broome County Jail and is awaiting further court action.
