Walton Fire Claims One Life

A Delaware County man is dead following a fire at an apartment house in Walton January 8.

The blaze on Benton Avenue was reported at 3:50 a.m. and firefighters found the building engulfed in flames when they arrived.

The body of 66 year old Phillip Kurt was found inside.

A neighbor said they tried to get into Kurt’s apartment but were turned back by smoke and flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There were four apartments in the building

Delhi and Trout Creek fire departments assisted Walton at the scene.
