Binghamton officials say city police fatally shot a man at a Front Street hotel after he fired on officers. Two officers sustained superficial wounds. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to an account released by the mayor's office, police were called to the Days Inn at 65 Front Street at 2:15 Sunday morning. There were two separate calls: one reporting a man was harassing hotel staff, the other reporting a shot had been fired in the area.

The City Hall statement indicates a suspect was encountered at the rear of the building. He is said to have started shooting at officers and they returned fire.

The statement did not name the man who died or the two police officers who were hurt.
