Law enforcement officials in the Twin Tiers seem to be at a loss to explain what may be behind a recent rash of thefts of one particular type of power tool.

Over the past few weeks, about a half dozen reports have come in around Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Southern Tier of New York where one of the choice items being taken in burglaries has been a chain saw.

Many of the incidents have been reported at businesses and a few homes in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania State Police say on May 21 two Granville residents were arrested for a burglary in which a hunting bow and a $900 chain saw were taken.  Police say 25 year old Nichole Northrop and 26 year old Mark VanHorn are charged with felony burglary as well as misdemeanor theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

Investigators say the pair may have been involved in other area burglaries and thefts.
