As the presidential inaugural festivities in Washington approach, people passing through Owego may have been surprised to hear strains of "Hail to the Chief."

Richard Jacobson spent some time over the weekend on a village street corner playing patriotic songs on his trumpet to the celebrate the upcoming swearing-in of Donald Trump.

The 72-year-old Jacobson, who now lives in Corning, is a 1962 Owego Free Academy graduate.

He said he was "trumpeting for Trump," something he did in many cities across the United States last year.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Jacobson said he's excited that Trump is about to become president. He said he believes Trump "will do our country good."

Jacobson said he once viewed Trump as "a rich, arrogant man." But, he said, his opinion of Trump "really changed" as he listened to what the Republican presidential candidate was saying during the campaign.

Jacobson said he enjoyed playing music to display his support for the president-elect. He said most people driving or walking by "just love it" although he'll occasionally receive some negative feedback.

Jacobson said he'll be in Corning on Friday, where he and some friends will hold their own small "Inaugural Ball." He said the event will feature a woman impersonating Donald Trump and a man playing Abraham Lincoln.
