Dozens of trees and hundreds of shrubs and flowers are being planted along Court Street in downtown Binghamton.

The streetscaping is one of the final steps in the $2.7 million Court Street Gateway Project.

Workers are installing planters between Exchange and Hawley streets. Several planters and trees were removed over the summer as the roadway and sidewalks were reconstructed.

According to the project plans, 44 trees and 1,000 shrubs and flowers are part of the streetscaping.

Two dozen benches also are to be put in place along Court Street.

Some traffic is being maintained through the work zone as crews tackle the last phase of the project.

Drivers should be prepared for changing traffic patterns and exercise caution as workers and equipment move along Court Street.

Downtown businesses continue to operate during the street reconstruction project.
