Tragedy Grows in Deadly Cortland County Crash

The obituary for one of the seven people killed in Wednesday's crash in Truxton says 21 year old Lena Beckwith of DeRuyter was pregnant.  She was enganged to 24 year old Carino Vandorden of Fayetteville, who was driving the minivan carrying 8 people Wednesday evening when a trailer unhitched from its truck and slammed into the van.

Vandorden was also killed.

Calling hours were held June 2nd for four out of the seven victims.  The lone suvivor in the crash, Shawn Mead of Cortland, father of two others killed: 7 year old Alyssa Mead and 4 year old Tyler Mead was injured but has since been released from the hospital.

Officials say a mechanical malfunction caused the trailer to unhitch instead of tightening the connection. There have been no tickets issued.  The investigation continues.
