The wait may soon be over for Jeff Gural, owner of Tioga Downs in Nichols, with the New York State Gaming Commission scheduled to decide on issuing a full casino license for the developing resort on Tuesday, August 30.

Tioga Downs has been waiting for years for permission to expand into full-service gaming since bidding opened for casinos.

It was denied in the first round of licenses, with the Southern Tier license granted to Lago resort in Tyre in the Finger Lakes.

After an appeal, including a call by the Governor for a casino to be opened in “The Real Southern Tier”, the Commission formally recommended the Nichols Racino for a full gaming license.

As soon as that recommendation came down, work on expanding Tioga Downs into a resort destination, family entertainment facility and casino picked up pace this year.
