Thunder Eliminate Rumble Ponies

And suddenly you wake up and baseball is gone.  That’s what it feels like to many Binghamton Rumble Ponies fans as a playoff series that began with such high hopes was shattered with three straight Trenton Thunder victories.  That gives the Thunder the win in the best-of-five series three games to one.

In the first playoff game Binghamton gained the upper hand led by Eastern League Pitcher of the Year Corey Oswalt and posted a 4-1 victory at NYSEG Stadium.

Then with the series even at one win apiece the Thunder returned home and posted two consecutive wins including a combined pitching no-hitter on Friday night and the clinching victory Saturday night in Trenton.

In Saturday night’s game the Thunder rolled to a 9-1 win. Will Carter went 6 1/3 innings to earn the win for Trenton.  He gave up Binghamton’s lone run on an RBI double off the bat of Peter Alonso.

Mickey Jannis started for the Rumble Ponies and took the loss giving up five runs in 2 1/3 innings of work.  The Thunder move on to play for the overall Eastern League championship when they meet the Western Division winners…the Altoona Curve.

For the Rumble Ponies the season comes to and end after producing numerous exciting moments for their fans.  Next up for the Rumble Ponies is the 2018 season opener at NYSEG Stadium on April 5th when they host the Portland Sea Dogs at 6:35 PM.
