Binghamton Police are investigating the stabbing of a man March 13 on State Street.

Authorities say they don’t believe the victim and the suspect knew each other as the stabbing occurred during a dispute between the victim and his girlfriend. Police said, however, the suspect was charged with criminal contempt for violating an order of protection.  He is also charged with burglary.

Officials say, while the victim was stabbed three times in the back, the wounds were not life threatening.

No names are being released.

The suspect was sent to the Broome County Jail.
