Economic development projects in the Southern Tier will receive additional state funding as the result of a grant award announced December 11.

A series of initiatives will get $80.8 million as part of the Regional Economic Development Council program.

The Southern Tier received the third-highest amount in the regional competition.

Several projects in Broome County will be boosted with the infusion of state money.

County Executive Debra Preston's office issued a statement praising those who submitted the proposals which are designed to create jobs.

The regional awards were announced during a 90-minute program in Albany.
