A suspect in a 2013 Binghamton murder is on trial.

42 year old Nigel Smith is charged with murder and robbery in the June 15 death of Bretnie “Sha” Owens at his home on Stone Street.

This past June, another suspect in the case, Calvin Bell, was acquitted of all charges against him in connection with the death.

Prosecutors have claimed Smith and Bell broke into Owens’ home with the intent of robbing him of drugs and money.

Investigators say Owens was a drug dealer.

During Bell’s grail, defense attorneys argued there was no physical evidence putting him at the scene of the crime.
