Two men posing as town of Dickinson employees are suspected of stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from a home in Sunrise Terrace.

The men told an Elaine Drive resident they were from the water department. They said they needed to check the water pressure inside the house.

According to Broome County Sheriff David Harder, the men were wearing uniform shirts and possessed some type of identification. One went upstairs to "check the water" while the other remained downstairs.

Harder says nine necklaces and four rings with a value of $7,000 were reported missing.

Dickinson town supervisor Michael Marinaccio warned area residents to be aware of this type of scam.

Marinaccio urged people to call the town hall or appropriate government office to verify the identity of anyone who wants to enter a home.
