Speaking on the May 24 edition of the local weekly public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Ross Park Zoo Special Events & Media Relations Assistant, Rachel Davenport says activities at the zoo on Morgan Road on Binghamton's South Side are really picking up for the summer season.

Davenport says this year is very exciting with the addition of several new animals, including Howler Monkeys that have been delighting visitors and staff.

The zoo also has new River Otter babies that are just starting to swim around in their little wading pools before they will be moved into the larger exhibit.

There are summer intern programs available for high school Junior Docents who help educate visitors about the animals.

The Zoomobile is also very busy during the summer season.

Davenport also offered some behind the scenes insight in how animals are selected to ride along for a Zoomobile visit, how they are scheduled and even how long it takes to prepare an animal to participate.

More information about the zoo can be found a www.rossparkzoo.com.  Tickets for popular events like the Zoo Brew and Feast With the Beasts can now also be purchased online.

Information about zoo hours and programs are also available by calling (607) 724-5461.

Southern Tier Close Up airs Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
