January is National Blood Donor Month and the American Red Cross has an urgent need for blood platelet donations.

Guy Triano, donor recruitment director for the Red Cross New York-Penn Blood Services Region, says "We encourage our generous donors who are eligible, as well as new donors, to make an appointment to give blood or platelets and help ensure blood products continue to be available for patients.  Every two seconds a patient in the U.S. needs blood."

There are a number of locations that will be assisting the Red Cross with blood drives. Blood donations will be taken at the Johnson City Blood Donation Center, 365 Harry L Drive on: Tuesday, January 12 from 7:00 a.m - 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 13 from 11:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Thursday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.  For additional locations that will be holding blood drives in the area go to redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-733-2767.
