Pedestrian Hit by Tow Truck Dies

A woman hit by a large tow truck on Front Street in the City of Binghamton this week has died.

61 year old Jane Jones suffered serious head injuries when she was hit by the USave tow truck that was turning onto Front Street from the Broome County Health Department shortly after 8:30 a.m. July 15.

The driver of the truck has not been faulted.

Officials say the woman died during surgery at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center.

Police said Jones had been crossing Front Street near Winding Way, but not in a pedestrian cross walk, when she was hit by the tow truck.  The driver said he didn't see Jones crossing the street and only saw her lying in the road after she was hit.

Front Street was closed for several hours following the collision.
