Fifth District Binghamton city councilman Chris Papastrat says he intends to seek reelection.

Papastrat, a Republican, has not formally launched his campaign for another four-year term. But during an appearance on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program this morning, he said: "Yes, I am going to run and I look forward to it."

The Fifth District covers the southwest section of the city.

Papastrat first served on council from 2004 through 2007. He was elected to another term in 2011.

Papastrat said he believes the issues of greatest concern to Binghamton residents haven't changed much over the years. He said taxes, public safety and the city's infrastructure continue to be among the top priorities.

Papastrat said he likes being able to help people in his district get the assistance they need from city government.

No one else has publicly announced plans to seek the Fifth District city council seat in November.
