A Bradford County man is to be held on $1.5 million bail when he is released from a hospital after allegedly intentionally ramming a state police car in a stolen vehicle, pinning a trooper between two squad cars.

The impact then drove the two squad cars into another trooper.

Officials say 47 year old Richard Vanderpool of Towanda is charged with numerous counts including attempt to commit criminal homicide.

Authorities say the whole thing started with a report of a stolen car outside the Dandy Mini Mart in on Main Street in Towanda and a complaint about a man with a gun outside a residence.

The troopers were injured when Vanderpool allegedly returned to where authorities were interviewing witnesses outside the home.

Three troopers were hurt in the incident between 7:30 and 8:45 p.m., one seriously.

Vanderpool and one of the officers were admitted to the hospital while another Trooper was treated and released.

In all, Vanderpool is charged with criminal attempt to commit homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated assault while driving under the influence, a person not to possess a firearm, theft, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, DUI, terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
