Owego-Tioga Fire District Rejected

There will be no Owego-Tioga Fire District any time soon.

Trustees from the Town of Owego, Village of Owego and Town of Tioga have rejected putting a proposal before voters that would have residents decide if there should be a combined fire district.

If that had been approved, Village of Owego residents would have seen a new fire district tax.

Lawmakers questioned the benefit to residents while Owego fire officials say the combined district would have kept the possibility of the department folding due to dwindling funding at bay.
