Volunteer firefighters in Owego are still on the job, still without a new Standard Operating Guidelines manual.

The Village Board met April 29 to discuss the report but failed to approve the full guidelines.  The trustees did rule, however, in favor of rewriting the department procedural documents within the next month and a half.

Several firefighters had threatened to resign if the standards were not approved at the board meeting, but they remain on the job while the trustees continue to go over the 377 page document.

The board is expected to vote on the full set of guidelines June 16.

The SOG outlines safety procedures, training and restructures the department leadership structure.
