Online Challenge Raises Concerns in Waverly

Kathy Whyte/ WNBF News

Officials in Waverly are warning people not to choose their reservoir to participate in the Cold Water Challenge that’s been promoted on face book.

The posting encourages people to jump into bodies of cold water and to put video of the stunt on line. The stunt also involves donations to charity.

Waverly officials say aside from the danger of cold water causing hypothermia, there is a pump system that could injure or even cause drowning for anyone entering the water.

The Waverly reservoir provides water to the Village.

Officials say recently some people were caught coming out of the reservoir after responding to the online challenge.
