Binghamton mayor Matthew Ryan is urging city residents to take steps to help things go more smoothly during and after the snow storm.

Vehicle owners are encouraged to park off-street when possible to facilitate snow removal operations.

According to a City Hall advisory, free parking will be available at downtown city-owned garages and in the lots of city parks.

Police plan to strictly enforce alternate side of the street parking regulations. Vehicles parked illegally could be ticketed and towed.

The city government advisory urged people to avoid unnecessary travel after 5:00 p.m. Friday.

Binghamton property owners are responsible for removing snow and ice from sidewalks in front of their property. Dumping snow into the street is illegal.
