New York State Senate Republicans will continue in a coalition with Democrats and share power in the chamber.

That announcement came yesterday as Republican leader Dean Skelos was confirmed to continue in that position and Republican Senator Thomas Libous of Binghamton was confirmed to remain in the number two Republican leadership job of Deputy Majority Leader.

The break-off group of Democrats paired with Republicans to control the Senate but the GOP had the opportunity to take sole leadership after sinning additional seats earlier this year.

There had been rumors of a shake-up in the Republican leadership as Senator Libous has been indicted on allegations that he lied to the FBI about his involvement in getting his son a job with a New York City law firm and the career politician’s on-going fight with cancer.
